... about the Founder/Director
Brayden Klassen
Filmmaker & Architectural Designer
My Biography
I was born at a young age and have been a child of God most of my 28 years. Even as a young boy, there were two things I wanted to be, (1) a missionary, (2) an architect, (and I wanted to make movies but mostly just because I thought it would be cool ;). Today, while I am not an architect, I still have a passion for design and do some work as a self-taught architectural designer. At some point though, my dreams of having a career in that field were put aside when God clearly and quite suddenly showed me a critical and very powerful mission field... film. Since then I have been pursuing filmmaking and look forward to the time I can produce the larger projects God has placed on my heart.
My Creative Journey
I've always loved stories. Growing up, I was known as "the librarian" because I read so much and as a result I knew exactly where each of our thousands of book were, what they looked like, what they were about, who the authors were, and sometimes even when they were printed! As I got older I got tired of reading the same books six or seven times over and started spending more of my free time drawing houses, first on paper, then eventually on Sketchup. Puzzling out how the rooms would go together and making the building look good was exhilarating for me. I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up.
Then one day while listening to some christian film CDs, I was immediately hooked on filmmaking and its amazing potential as a ministry. Figuring out a way to balance both my passion for design and for film was a huge worry for me until I realized that production design is both. That is when I started to notice the tiny details in the set design and composition that make each shot great. The psychology of space, colour texture, and balance has always been a special interest of mine and production design is where that really shines.
What I Believe
I believe the Bible to be absolutely true from Genesis to Revelation. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" 2 Timothy 3:16
In a nutshell: God created everything from nothing in six literal days, including man in his own image. Then we, through Adam, rebelled against God and sealed our own fate, death. "We all have sinned (through Adam) and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23 "The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23 Jesus Christ is the only road out of sin and it's consequences. He took on the form of a man and set us the ultimate example of Love before taking on the sins of the world (including my own) and dying the death that I deserved on the cross. Romans 5:21 says it all, "That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."
I come from a Mennonite heritage and was raised in a Christian home and so right from day one, my parents faithfully taught me these truths from scripture. I accepted Jesus as my savior at about age 4 or 5. Looking back I can see how God has guided me over the years and His leading has never been clearer than when I am on a film set. Maybe that is why I love it so much, just watching God work things out is an education in itself!
My Goals
At this point in time, the theaters are a stronghold of evil where violence and immorality reign. Not only that but digital media of all sorts has become arguably the most influential tool for sharing information in our culture today and film is right at the top of the list. We can use this to create the Gospel tracts of the future. As filmmakers, we either hold the power to reach the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ or to knock it down. My goal is to produce feature films, short films, and documentaries that will use for God's glory what I like to call the "Four E's": Evangelize, Encourage, Educate, and, Entertain. (I believe every film has these, they just use them in a different way and prioritize them differently.) I say with Brian Ivey "I would rather tell the plainest truth with $100,000 than the most sophisticated technological lie with ten million dollars or one hundred million dollars."
Ideally I'd like to work full time as a media missionary in a studio building with other filmmakers because I think that is the most efficient way to create films. Whether they are my own films or someone else's does not matter so much to me, as long as they are ultimately God's.
